Midnight Mass
Plot:
The hour is late, past midnight. A priest has been called to a remote precinct under an oath of secrecy to have a conversation with the sole survivor of a gruesome ritualistic murder. Seven slain. Their hearts eaten. The single survivor was a scared woman who was found naked, covered in blood-drawn symbols, and wielding a knife. She refused to speak to detectives. The only man she wanted to see was her former priest. It’s been seven years since he’s spoken with his prodigal parishioner. Does he have the fortitude to extract a confession before sunrise?
Game Jam:
This was a game made during the Based Game Jam 2024. The theme was “S.P.Q.R aka Rome”
Brainstorming:
I figured most gamejammers would focus on ancient Rome, so I went the opposite direction. How have the structures, myths, and beliefs of ancient Rome effected us today? Which of their ancient customs have survived and what might they look like in a modern setting? My first thought was the Roman Catholic Church. Since the Game Jam took place in October, I thought of Halloween and horror, so I wrote a horror story involving a priest.
S.P.Q.R. → Rome → Catholic Church → Priest
October → Halloween → Horror
